About Floridas Garden Pit

Florida’s Garden Pit is taking on a new Look! We have always said “The Unusual is our Standard” and that will continue even more.

I, Shirley Levkulich, was owner of a successful prize winning and magical business in Steamboat Springs, Co.for 31 years. 6 acres of greenhouses, nursery, and landscaping.   The Drs. said no more high altitude and dry air. They said I needed lower altitude and more humidity. (I think that means Florida).  My son at that time was a Brevard County Fire Fighter, so I moved to Cocoa in 2007. There I made Flowering Containers and grew Organic Vegetables for Farmers Markets.

The nursery opened in March 2014. Situated just 5 miles, 5 min. west of I 95 on U.S. 40, the nursery is located in front of our home but back of the pasture home of Hobo, our large red cow and our two miniature Herefords, our Baby Doll Miniature Sheep, and our bossy miniature donkeys -Ginger Rogers and Annie. So after you wander down our driveway, you come to The Garden Pit. It is run by my friend and foreman, Samuel Ayala and myself.
WE have been known for growing a wide array of plants. Now we will still grow our annuals, succulents, and cacti, but I am going to make our Nursery a Accent Garden Dream. Lots and lots of Reasonable priced pottery, garden accents including bird baths, statues, and anything I find that I like. I always told my customers, “You have to like my taste to shop here. A bit unusual and a wild array.” Then we will still have plants. Clumping bamboo, because it is absolutely the best for screening – Lots of Gingers because I love them – Tropicals because we live in Florida – Salvias because they are carefree and bloom like forever – Ornamental Grasses because I love them and they make a garden, Elephant Ears because no garden should be without them – Ferns because of their special beauty – of course our Succulents & Cacti – an array of Fruit trees, Bushes, other Edibles and Herbs – and of course the UNUSUAL – long bloomers, weird ones, etc.

Our hours will be as unusual as our contents. Going on 78, I am spending some time traveling “The Road Less Traveled” so- we will be open March – July – gone most of August, back for the great planting in Sept. and Oct., and away again most of the time. If we are here, the gate is open, so drive on in. Give us a call at 386-310-7583 to leave a message. Thanks and God Bless.
